Hello In Stitches Family,
Every year on June 5th, South Dakotans celebrate 605 Day, a nod to the state’s one and only area code. It’s a day to appreciate everything that makes South Dakota such a unique place to live, work, and explore.
At In Stitches, we’re proud to call South Dakota home. As a family-owned business serving customers across the Black Hills and beyond, we have plenty of reasons to love this state. From breathtaking landscapes to rich history and incredible communities, South Dakota offers something special around every corner.
Here are just a few of our favorite things about the Mount Rushmore State.
1. Mount Rushmore National Memorial

No list of South Dakota attractions would be complete without Mount Rushmore. Carved into the granite of the Black Hills, this iconic monument welcomes millions of visitors each year and remains one of the most recognizable landmarks in the United States.
2. The Beauty of the Black Hills
The Black Hills are one of South Dakota’s greatest treasures. With scenic drives, hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and charming mountain towns, this region offers endless opportunities for adventure and exploration.
Whether you’re driving Needles Highway, exploring Spearfish Canyon, or spending a weekend camping, the Black Hills never disappoint.
3. Badlands National Park
Few places look quite like Badlands National Park. Its dramatic rock formations, deep canyons, and colorful layered cliffs create one of the most unique landscapes in America.
The Badlands remind us that some of nature’s most beautiful creations are also its most rugged.

4. Custer State Park and Its Famous Bison Herd
Home to more than 1,300 free-roaming bison, Custer State Park is one of South Dakota’s most beloved destinations.
Visitors come from around the world to experience Wildlife Loop Road, scenic drives, hiking trails, and the annual Buffalo Roundup. It’s a place where South Dakota’s wild spirit is still alive and well.

5. Rich South Dakota History
From Native American heritage to the Black Hills Gold Rush, South Dakota’s history runs deep.
Historic Deadwood offers a glimpse into the Old West, while communities throughout the state continue to preserve and celebrate the stories that helped shape South Dakota into what it is today.
6. Underground Wonders
Many people know South Dakota for what they can see above ground, but some of the state’s greatest treasures lie beneath the surface.
Wind Cave National Park and Jewel Cave National Monument attract visitors from around the world. Jewel Cave is currently recognized as the third-longest cave in the world, while Wind Cave is famous for its rare boxwork formations.
7. Outdoor Adventures Around Every Corner
South Dakota is a dream destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Whether you enjoy hiking, fishing, boating, camping, hunting, rock climbing, or simply taking in the scenery, there is no shortage of ways to get outside and enjoy the state’s natural beauty.
8. Strong Communities and Small Businesses
One of the things we appreciate most about South Dakota is the people.
Small businesses, community organizations, schools, churches, and local events all help create the welcoming atmosphere that makes South Dakota feel like home.
As a local business ourselves, we’re grateful for the customers and communities that continue to support us year after year.
9. The Pasque Flower: South Dakota’s State Flower
The Pasque Flower has been South Dakota’s official state flower since 1903. Known for its vibrant purple petals and ability to bloom early in the spring, it has become a symbol of resilience and beauty across the state.
For this year’s 605 Day celebration, we’re also highlighting a beautiful Pasque Flower design created by Meadow & Mountain, a fellow small business that celebrates state flowers and the stories behind them. (Take a look at their website to listen to more of the story behind the pasque flower.)

10. The People Who Call South Dakota Home
At the end of the day, the best thing about South Dakota isn’t a landmark, a park, or a scenic drive.
It’s the people.
The neighbors who lend a hand. The local businesses that support one another. The families who build their lives here. The communities that make this state such a wonderful place to live.
That’s something worth celebrating every day, but especially on 605 Day.
Happy 605 Day from In Stitches
We’re proud to be a South Dakota business serving customers throughout the Black Hills and beyond. Whether you’ve lived here your entire life or you’re planning your first visit, we hope you’ll take a moment to celebrate everything that makes South Dakota special.
After all, there’s a reason so many people fall in love with the 605.
