Hello In Stitches family!
I recently heard a statistic that the first real memory many adults have is a family trip that happened between the ages of 8 and 10. Think about it. What do you remember from childhood? Do you remember the day to day or do you remember the camping trip, road trip, or other vacation?
It sure got us thinking about the fun road trips we took with our family! And you know what? All we remember is the good. I’m sure there were times when we were tired and grouchy but those memories fade away and all we remember is the fun and laughter.
Speaking of laughter, let’s talk about some interesting facts about road trips, plus what we can do for you when it comes to your next roadtrip (facts).
-And no, we won’t be taking a turn driving!-
Fact #1
The first very first road trip was taken in 1888 in Germany. Bertha Benz, the wife of inventor Karl Benz, drove over 60 miles in a Benz Patent-Motorwagen.
Fact #2
You can’t take a road trip to Mt. Everest. It isn’t accessible by road. Neither is Juneau, Alaska, which is the only state capital that you can’t road trip to.
Fact #3
The concept of a “road trip” is from the novel On the Road by Jack Kerouac from 1957. It inspired a generation to hit the road and experience that freedom!
Fact #4
Getting your kicks on Route 66 is the most famous road trip route in the world. Going from Chicago to Los Angeles, it is an iconic route filled with diners, motels, and landscapes that remind you of bygone eras!
Fact #5
You find so many hidden gems when you take a road trip, rather than take an airplane. It’s hard to see that cute little store from an airplane window or read that roadside plaque from a train window.
So, if you’re getting ready to get your kicks on route 66 or take a ride to your state capital (as long as you don’t live in Alaska), let us know how we can help you make it even more memorable!
